| Review of “Romancing on the Bay of Fundy” By Erika Staples Author and poet of “Piece of My Soul” and “Spirals of Nature” “Romancing the Bay of Fundy” by Donna Sheehy is a collection of poems that take you on a journey to Nova Scotia. Her realistic words tell a story and paint vivid images of the world she has come to know and love. I taste the maple, smell the salt, hear the ocean waves, and see the landscape shape in my mind as I read each line. Donna shares with us mysterious ghost tales, along with deep desires of her heart and passions of love that all can relate to. Donna brings me to tears in her poem “Forerunners” with words such as: Heavy hearted she waits the night praying for a fate more bright, but when told of his grievous doom she understands his visit to her room. I applaud the bravery shown through her words. When she went to Parrsboro and fell in love with it. Parrsboro gave her no choice but to then make it her new home. Not everyone can follow their heart that way. In the poem “The Ghost and His Lady” a love tale is revealed and brought to life like a magical movie, and made my heart weep for the longing of such true love. There she slumbers in her bed with a timid reach of his hand, his unfelt caress upon her chin suppressing his love’s demand. I give this book respected acclaim. Donna’s poems are gratifying to read and I would highly recommend “Romancing on the Bay of Fundy“. The Bay of Fundy has romanced my heart through Donna’s quality of words. Her tremendous choice of words to trace life into a poetic picture is an astonishing talent which created a timeless book to eternally treasure. |
| Donna Sheehy takes you on a vacation to Canada at a fraction of the cost. In Romancing on the Bay Of Fundy, Donnas’ writing captures the bay area as an all-inclusive retreat awaiting your traveling soul. "Why does this ocean chill my hand and escape through my fingers wide, yet, still warm deep within my core with each wave of its flowing tide?" Take a walk on the beach with Donna as she shares her experience with the ocean’s tranquility. "The aroma of the warm sultry air drifts through her lengthy hair, mingled with the sea’s moist spray such a lovingly gentle bouquet." When your sense of adventure comes to play, go on a treasure hunt in the bay. Is the treasure heart or fortune? It’s up to you to decide while searching for the meaning of… "X marks the spot on secret maps where treasure is hidden in a chest, buried deeply for no eyes to see, thus, is the reason for our quest." After a day at the beach and treasures unfold. Listen to the music the bay sings to you in many verse such as… "The music of Nova Scotia fills your heart and soul, Scottish, Celtic, Irish dance, ballads of a traditional whole. Songs of lovers lost at sea as lyrics are sang to meter, with the beat of the drum we dance, drink and teeter." Tempt your palette with a treat from the forests all around, and learn how nature quells our sweet tooth. "Springtime turns to a sweet time as the maples are soon on tap this natural golden nectar grown produces goodies from its sap. This sap must be prepared just so to create a treasured butter, try some on your favorite bread it will begin your senses aflutter." When the music is over and sweets are gone, settle around the fire for tales of old as told like these… "Their affection for one another lasted throughout her days, till their souls ultimate greet toward their eternal phase. Tales like these are often heard of the ghost and his lady love, both bound to last eternally and what true love is capable of." "Now that you have been warned, there’ll be no need to be scorned, or even worry about mourned, unless it is she you must obsess. Just keep in mind if you dare, of this forewarning and beware, should you walk in the forest do prepare, and see her, send a signal of distress. But if caught by her attention and you happen to be reckless, you will surely be in an unholy mess." Let the ocean inspire your day; take on a treasure quest, live life through tales and music while sweetening your heart. And at the end of your travels share your soul with the one you love, let them know they are your world like in this poem. "You fulfill my days with love so true and my nights with passion for just us two. You touch my very soul deep within me bring out the purest emotions; can't you see?" Donna shares her world with us in Romancing on The Bay of Fundy. A must read on a quiet night when you can allow yourself to hear the seagulls and the waves crash the shore, to feel the mist upon your face and share it all with the one you love. | Romancing on the Bay of Fundy “My soul’s attraction” Donna L. Sheehy Reviewed by Tempie Simply a Masterpiece!!! The title pulled me in and the words would not let me go. I have not enjoyed ninety-four pages of pure delight in one sitting in a while. To say that my experience was breathtaking does not give this intimate blend of the most captivating poems I have ever read its just due. The author did a beautiful job of taking me around the world of Nova Scotia in ninety-four pages. She truly did stay true to her title in romancing my soul with the Bay of Fundy. There was such warmth of mysterious charm as I allowed the rhythm and the melody of the ocean embrace me over each gentle tide. Each of the author’s etched drawings went hand in hand in speaking aloud what each poem was whispering. In reading for an example her poem, “Plovers on the Beach”. You actually saw the beauty of the two as they flew to one another preening each other into an embrace. While later leaving a backdrop of their loves decree of footprints lightly upon the sand. Oh! If Nova Scotia doesn’t do it, then living in Parrsboro will. With the coastal views, high tides, quaint townships and amazing residents stole my heart away. Sketching the canvas of the seasons of Nova Scotia and continuing to tell of its wonders and beauty took this masterpiece in a timeless era. I can see this simple book of poems as a classic delight to be admired and shared for generations to come. This is a must read book for all. I highly recommend it. This is a five star class read in a category all of it’s own in my opinion. I truly enjoyed reading this book. Tempie |

| Mary E. Preece's Review for Romancing the Bay of Fundy by Donna Sheehy Donna Sheehy does Parrsboro, Nova Scotia proud with her wonderfully titled poetry book Romancing the Bay of Fundy. I love the title and the book. Romacing the Bay of Fundy is just what it says it is. The book is of beautiful romantic thoughts and illusions of her favorite places, things and people. There are great poems that describe so vividly the nature around the bay, the seasons, the animals, the points of interest and the folklore of the area. The poetry reminds me of poetry written by a nineteenth century poet and really does put you in those places she poetically describes. I loved the four seasons poems, one for each season that is colorful and so explanatory. I loved Sweet Maple Sugar. There were so many that I loved. She has her own artwork which only adds to the talented demensions to this lady. She moved to Parrsboro a few years ago and undoubtedly fell in love with the area completely. Every Parrsboro resident should own a copy of Donna's book for she captures the town and it's essence. A beautiful read and I highly recommend it to everyone. |
| As I began my journey through the magical pages of "Romancing on the Bay of Fundy" by Donna L. Sheehy, I was moved into this author's world of ocean breezes and sandy beaches. Sheehy brought me into her world, with each line and stanza, making me wish more and more that I could truly be in this place that brings such inspiration. From "The Ocean's Melody", singing its song so sweet, to the ghostly whispers of old folklore stories passed down, such as in "The Lighthouse"-this reader found herself seeking more. And alas, it was given. I then came upon the wonderful romantic artistry in pieces such as, "Eternal Love", and this my favorite, "Surrender". Sheehy has done an extraordinary job, by allowing her readers to see the beauty she sees around her. There is a harmonious composition that Sheehy brings to her work, and it one that is not only enjoyed by this reader, but appreciated. I recommend this to anyone is search of the beauty in this world. Candice M. Martin, Author, "Petals of Life: A Survivor's Writings" & "Reflections In My Tears" |
