Mary Ellen Goble Preece's books
Review for Poems, Prayers, and Promises of an Appalachian Woman:

Mary Ellen Goble Preece's book, “
Poems, Prayers and Promises of an Appalachian Woman,”is a beautifully written collection that touches the soul.  I truly love her description of her hometown of Inez, Kentucky, with exactly 500 or so has said on the sign for the many years.  She describes many of the residents and how they are woven in a community filled with faith.  I felt as though I was alongside her in the center of town meeting each resident on their way to worship the Lord in the town’s many churches.

Mary’s inspirational poetry is uplifting and a beautiful example of faith without borders, placing all the focus on God.  The collection of poetry by itself is spirit-filled and valuable to all no matter what their spiritual awareness.  Along with her poetry, she gives further insight, examples and inspirational advice.

I loved her poem, The Carpenter, where she describes her "daddy", and how hard he worked and instilled his great love of God, similarly to Jesus did for us all.

I enjoyed many of Mary’s poems and stories.  I did feel, her poem, " May Your Day", is a beautiful example of a daily unselfish prayer we should all say.  Her poem, “The Savior of My Soul  My song of praise,” is a beautifully written example of her faith in the Lord.

Mary’s amazing imagery is seen as she describes her life atop her mountainous hometown.  She takes me back to a time of front porches, neighbors without fences, and when material things were not as important than faith and family.  Where listening to the gospel and following the good honest values were once commonly shared across the country.

It is my opinion that this book should never be put atop a bookshelf to gather dust, but to be read as a daily inspiration and renewal of one’s faith. She covers every facet of life from war, loss, children, love, family, neighbors, and more.  I highly recommend this for all.
